The Tangzu Lizhi receives quite some attention so we are giving everyone a small staff review and taking this chance to answer some of the most asked questions.
The TANGZU audio LI ZHI earphones serves as the grand finale to the brand’s Imperial Trilogy, and they definitely didn't skimp on the engineering here. Instead of packing the shell with a dozen different drivers, TANGZU went all-in on a 10mm single dynamic driver featuring a genuine diamond crystal chemical vapor deposition (CVD) evaporated diaphragm.
To skip the marketing jargon: this isn't just a basic DLC coating. It's a true diamond crystal layer that adds rigidity by about 40%, which basically means it eliminates diaphragm breakup, giving you incredibly fast transients and ultra-low distortion across the board.
The physical build is just as serious. You're looking at a heavy, multi-layer electroformed stainless steel cavity topped with a vacuum-plated zinc alloy faceplate that sports a killer 3D imperial dragon motif. Inside, even the internal connectors are custom silver-gold plated.
TANGZU audio paired the IEM with a custom-tuned cable, a hand-woven blend of Furukawa silver-copper alloy and high-tensile yarn that feels incredibly premium and behaves beautifully without tangling.
If you’re tired of multi-driver setups that sound hyper-analytical and disconnected, or you can feel the discrepancies in speed between drivers, the LI ZHI is going to be a breath of fresh air. It leans heavily into that cohesive, organic, and deeply musical "flavor" that only a premium single dynamic driver can pull off.
The Bass: It’s punchy, athletic, and has great texture. It’s not tuned to head-rattling "basshead" levels; instead, it gives you a deep, atmospheric sub-bass rumble and a clean mid-bass thud that gives instruments real weight without bleeding into the lower mids.
The Midrange: This is the star of the show. Vocals are lush, intimate, and packed with emotional realism, completely avoiding any harshness or shoutiness.
The Treble: Smooth, safe, and totally fatigue-free. It rolls off gently while still retaining enough air and micro-detail to keep things engaging for long listening sessions.
Because of that dense metal housing and rigid diamond diaphragm, the LI ZHI loves clean power and absolutely scales with it. It’s efficient enough to run off a basic dongle, but plugging it into a solid 4.4mm balanced output really tightens up the bass decay and opens up the soundstage.
If you want more technical details, you can pick decoders like the Chord Mojo 2, which highlights transients and speed while also giving bass-dense textures. Since it doesn't involve a multi-driver/hybrid configuration, it sounds coherent on dongles, including Tangzu's own YuLingLong, as well as other mini converters with a dedicated DAC chipset. There is also plenty of room for it to scale with a higher-end setup such as the SMSL VMV stack.
For tips, sticking with the stock Tang Sancai wide-bore or the included Divinus PRISM tips is the way to go, they keep the upper frequencies beautifully transparent and let the midrange breathe.
Fun fact: the dynamic driver inside the LIZHI shares the same core foundation used in the ultra-flagship Wukong tri-brid. But where the Wukong throws Balanced Armatures and Electrostatics into the mix for maximum raw detail and aggressive sub-bass slam, the LI ZHI lets that single driver do all the heavy lifting alone. The result? The LI ZHI traded away a bit of that extreme technical edge for a much more natural, cohesive, and organic timbre.
Moving up to the LIZHI from entry-level tangzu audio iems staples like the Waner SG or its older sibling, the Shimin Li, is a night-and-day difference. While the budget line uses traditional diaphragms that tend to smooth over the finer details, the LIZHI’s true diamond driver catches the tiny nuances and trailing edges of notes with effortless speed. It keeps that signature, vocal-forward TANGZU DNA we all love, but elevates it into a completely different league of resolution, stage width, and premium physical craftsmanship.
